Center for Maternal & Newborn Health

The Center for Maternal and Newborn Health is a virtual center combining the expertise of two nationally-recognized facilities – Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center and East Tennessee Children’s Hospital. Together, these facilities and their prenatal doctors and pregnancy doctors bring unequaled prenatal and neonatal care to our region.

Perinatologists (doctors specially trained in maternal-fetal medicine) from the Fort Sanders Perinatal Center provide care to the expectant mother.  Dr. Periclis Roussis and Dr. Gary Stephens are board certified in obstetrics and gynecology, and are both specially trained in maternal fetal medicine. This specialized prenatal care can be on either a consultative basis (where our Perinatologists see a patient for one or two visits to treat/diagnose a specific condition) or on a long-term basis (where Perinatologists manage the high-risk expectant mother throughout her pregnancy). In either instance, communication is maintained with the patient’s original OB/GYN physician. Genetic Counseling is also available.

Neonatologists at East Tennessee Children’s Hospital specialize in caring solely for newborns. Available to be on-hand for expected high-risk deliveries and emergency deliveries, neonatologists at Children’s Hospital stabilize newborns in distress and assist in the transfer of these tiny patients to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Children's Hospital.
